Apple’s Mail application has new features like Markup and Mail Drop in OS X Yosemite

If you have upgraded to OS X Yosemite, you can see the new lovely flat-iconed look of the new OS’s interface.

In fact, OS X Yosemite is not just a new outfit for your Apple, but also has some very interesting new features like Markup and Mail Drop in the Apple Mail application.

Markup

Using Markup, you can annotate images and PDF files, without leaving the Mail application just by right clicking/double finger clicking on the attachment.

For instance, you can add shapes, add talk bubbles, write text words, insert free-hand signature and more. You can do all this in different colors, brushes and fonts. There also is a crop tool to do simple image edits and the pen tool for free-hand writing or drawing.

You will love Markup’s signature tool. The signature tool let’s you insert a signature using the trackpad or camera. All you have to do is sign the name with a finger on the trackpad and your signature is added to the document.

The signature tool does not end here. You in fact can write a signature on a white piece of paper and use the FaceTime camera to import it into the document. Make sure you keep you hand stable to make it easy for the camera to understand the signatures.

Mail Drop

Another feature Apple Mail now has is Mail Drop. Mail Drop let’s you send large file attachments of up to 5GB using iCloud.

Compose mail and attach file just as you do in routine but when the attachment size is too large, you are given an option to send it as a regular attachment or use the Mail Drop feature.

If Mail Drop is selected, the receiver will receive it as a download link to download directly from iCloud, if the receiver does not have Apple Mail application.

If the receiver too has Apple Mail application, the attachment is received as a regular attachment.

Right now, Mail Drop can only be used to send files that exceed the maximum allowed size by the email provider. This mean that a user does not have an option to set a file size to bring Mail Drop in action.

OS X Yosemite has been released to public and can be downloaded from the Mac App Store at no cost. It runs on all machines that were capable of running OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Mavericks, and it requires 8GB of storage space and 2GB of RAM.
